Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean, was also known as Taprobane Serendib or Lanka.
Its mystique preserves, spread out before the senses as soon as you arrive. The warm air, the rich green foliage, the multi-colored flags, and the range of colorful saris, fruits, jewellery and spices.
For a small island, Sri Lanka offers a truly amazing variety of attractions. The coasts are filled with palm lined beaches, and some with world-class surf coast (Arugam Bay). The Kandyan dances, elephant-led festival processions or any temple on a poya (full moon) days will delight culture hounds, as well viewing the stone-cut Buddhist art of the ancient capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. Heading inland into the Hill Country and the heat will fade away to reveal green hills filled with tea plantations. Or take a safari ride through our well-preserved national parks inhabited by elephants, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles and rare bird-life.
And not forgetting the welcoming people, great food, lovely places to stay, relax and for a reasonably low costs – all wrapped up in a compact, easy-to-navigate package.
